Chinook Creative Arts
The Cremona/Water Valley area has always had an abundance of artistic talents, which were brought together as the Chinook Creative Arts Foundation back in 1971, under the chairmanship of Hector Elliott. A group of people formed an organization that was interested in any artist or crafter who could encourage each other and pursue their interests and/or hobbies.
The first Art & Craft Show was held in April, 1972, and the group became an Alberta Society on January 26, 1973 . The organization has grown and developed into a well-recognized entity, with the art show becoming a regional spotlight held every year on the last Saturday of April.
Chinook Creative Arts Foundation started sponsoring further education classes in 1977, and the need for a building became acute. In cooperation with the Water Valley Community Association, Chinook Creative Arts Foundation received permission from Mountain View County to make a permanent home at the old Water Valley School – a place to work, give classes, and hold meetings. It also housed the library for many years.
Major renovations were undertaken. A great deal of organizational skills from the Chinook Creative Arts Foundation members and a group of volunteers and local businesses helped renovate and retain its outward appearance. This is a continuous process for the Foundation members.
Extra importance was granted to the old Water Valley school building built in 1946 when the Government of Alberta recognized it as a Historic resource in 1995.
The members of Chinook Creative Arts Foundation continue to offer a building for use by play-school tots, the library, arts and crafts classes, demonstrations, recreational activities, social functions and meetings.

Water Valley Play School
The Water Valley Play School supports the idea that children are unique and this environment will encourage exploration of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
Children succeed best in a stable, predictable and nurturing environment. The program supports the social, emotional and intellectual growth of this unique age group.
The program provides and encourages children to engage in activities that allow them to set and attain goals. Children are challenged to continually sample more complex levels of learning in a variety of environments. The inevitable goal is to build self esteem and assist in building cooperative skills appropriate to the developmental level of the student. This creates a strong foundation for engaging in relationships amongst their peers.
The program also encourages parents to network and support each other. Access to a variety of tools and written resources are available for parents to utilize to better understand the needs of their child and family.
The Play School program can be a valuable tool for you to better prepare your child to enhance existing skills and to learn new skills. This program assists students to be better prepared for the next step in their school life.
New teachers are coming soon to Water Valley Playschool! Our school year is almost done.
Registration Night and the Annual General Meeting will be held on May 20, 2010 at 7:00 pm at the Playschool (basement of Chinook Creative Arts Building). We will be offering programming once or twice a week for three and four year old children, with a new school year commencing in September, 2010. Fees will remain approximately the same as last year - 3 year olds/once a week - $275/year, 4 year olds/twice a week - $500/year.

Water Valley Rodeo
The Water Valley area is home to many working ranches. Every year since 1954, the first weekend in June has seen cowboys and cowgirls headed west to the Water Valley Stampede Grounds to compete in the two day Water Valley Rodeo. Held near Silver Creek Ranch, just off Highway 579, this event is a real crowd pleaser.
